Break-in to Tagaytay

Standard
Break-in to Tagaytay

It was the 1st Sunday of the new year 2022, we woke up early and did a break-in up to Tagaytay. We had a quick stroll at Crosswinds compound, since we arrived early, Napa was still closed, but there’s already a line of customers. The shop was smaller so they can only accommodate limited customers at a time. Nothing much to do, so we headed to our next stop.

Next on our list is Windmill Lausanne, this is our main target for a dine-in, but it did not happen hehe. It’s just a short ride from Napa, there’s this so-called Barangay Road which is like a shortcut especially for motorcycles. The scenery going there is already a treat for the eyes, and once you arrive on this other side of the compound, it’s like your not in Tagaytay 🙂 It’s more serene and wider compared to the previous compound. You can easily spot Café Yama, a newly opened Japanese resto and café, also added to our list as of today, as we plan to visit it soon. Across it, the windmill will surely get your attention, this is Windmill Lausanne.

Yes, it’s pretty picturesque inside and outside. What we did not like is aside from long ques of line, their waiting time to serve your orders is one hour at a minimum. This is also applicable even when you order just their drinks, so goodluck. Though the staff informs you about it ahead, but we think it’s unreasonable, just like us at that time who are in a hurry. We just stepped out from the line and might give this another try on off peak days. They are a Swiss inspired resto and café, price range is of course on the high side, just like it’s sister restaurants, though the food serving is good for 2 persons. Due to flock of customers, given it’s a weekend, the ambiance has lesser points. If you want to enjoy this place, better to visit them off-peak days and hours. Kids were also allowed to roam around just like in Napa. For us, the kids can enjoy it outside, but inside the resto, the space is just small. Make sure to bring your jackets, or added layer of clothes, the breeze in Crosswinds compound is cold.

We don’t want to get caught on the weekend rush traffic of Tagaytay so we went home and decided to have our breakfast along the way. It was just 9:00 am and most of the cafes and restaurants at Silang area are still closed. Still, we tried our luck at Chavez Estate, just in time they are already open when we arrived. It’s a 15 minute drive away from Tagaytay, you can easily spot them along the Aguinaldo Highway. I’ve been eyeing this resto for years now, finally, I got to try it already. 🙂

Wide parking space, free of charge. They now have an extension area for the Alfresco and the other for their bar. Since the breeze is still cold, we chose the alfresco area. We ordered the breakfast platters (Gourmet Tuyo; Angus Tapa), cups of Americano and Latte. Very satisfied with our orders, nice presentation, generous portions, tastes really good even the coffee. Serving time is about 30 minutes. The price range is also on the high side but for us, it’s fair enough and worth it. Would love to visit again and try other selection, or on their bar section.

So that’s our heads up tips on your next resto or café hopping if you plan to drive to Tagaytay. Please rate our post. Thanks!

Zoo-tiful Yoki’s Farm

Standard
Zoo-tiful Yoki’s Farm

Pandemic may have stopped all of us from being outdoors, especially for babies and kids. A quick visit to this place is enough to reconnect us with nature and refuel our minds that got used to being indoors for a long time.

Yoki’s Farm is located at Mendez, Cavite. A 1-2 hours drive if you’re from the south. Can be easily searched on Waze or Google Maps. It’s near Tagaytay as well, so you can have a side trip there afterwards.

What’s good at Yoki’s Farm is that they allow babies and kids, no age restriction even to senior citizens. We went there early morning on a Friday, a long weekend holiday for 2021 Lunar New Year. Our tour lasted for almost one and a half hour. Overall experience is nice, it’s a new experience for my 2 year old toddler who loves animals. Seeing her reaction on the animal encounters is worth it. And it’s her first time to go outside for a long time since the pandemic started.

In terms of health protocol, you’ll still feel safe since the property itself is wide, spacious and open area. The tour guide also ensures that phyisical distancing is followed, they don’t crowd the guests in one area. We also saw alcohol bottles and disinfecting mat on each area.

Entrance Fees: P300.00 per person for Farm Tour only; P800.00 for Animal Encounter; Tour Guide Fee P100.00. Babies up to 3 years old are free.

Helpful Tips:

  • Food and drinks are allowed inside
  • Best time to visit is early morning to avoid long lines at the entrance and crowd inside. The cool breeze in the morning is a bonus.
  • You can bring a stroller but not recommended since there are parts wherein you have to climb a few steps. And the farm tends to get slippery & muddy when it rains. You can leave the strollers in the reception area.
  • Bring a small umbrella, though the tour guide also provides 1-2 umbrellas for the group.
  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
  • Always check their FB page for updates before visiting.

Update as of today, I checked their FB page and saw their announcement that temporarily only 15-65 years old are allowed to enter their premises.

Here’s a short video of our visit at Yoki’s Farm.

Baby’s Staycation: La Bella

Standard
Baby’s Staycation: La Bella

A fresh post from our last weekend’s gala with baby. We saw this place featured at GMA News TV’s – Poptalk, and it got me at first look. We decided to book an overnight stay to celebrate my birthday and baby’s recent baptismal.

La Bella is located at Tagaytay, near the Radar Station and Puzzle Mansion. It’s a developing residential and commercial compound tucked from the main road, just entering their gates will give you that relaxing and posh vibe.

This & the library cafe are closed on Mondays

They have a boutique hotel, residential condo units, restaurants, library cafe, spa and soon they will also have an organic market filled with other unique stuff for sale.

Main Bedroom

Bedroom 2

View from our balcony

Booking a unit or room at La Bella is easy, but they sell up fast so better plan your trip ahead. Going here on weekdays is better. Dear prefers our unit at Wind Residences since it’s bigger and higher but I kinda liked La Bella’s ambiance more. We had a Sunday-Monday stay but there are still many guests at the compound.

Aside from the establishments found within the compound, the main attraction here is the swimming pool. It has a unique and modern style with a glass design perfect for your “awrahan” pictures haha. They also have a jacuzzi at the hotel’s penthouse, the rental I think costs from Php1,000.00 up and if we visit La Bella again, I’m thinking of trying this one.

The place has a Santorini theme and I’m lovin’ the architectural style, their interiors..it’s uncommon. Since it’s a smaller compound with lots of greens, it has a serene and calming feeling. Opposite to Dear’s preference of being on a high-rise tower and close to well known establishments.

Instagrammable, as what the millennials label on hip and trendy places, that’s what you’ll have during your stay at La Bella. But for me, I just love the place for being so unique and again, relaxing.

Another unforgettable moment on this staycation is our baby’s first swimming, yey! She’s 4 months old now and another experience was added, her parents likes to swim..especially her mom 😂

Thanks for reading, please rate our post.

Baby’s Staycation: SMDC Wind Residences

Standard
Baby’s Staycation: SMDC Wind Residences

New parents still with an itch to travel or just roam around, but this time with a baby. And that’s the upgraded version of Kaja Let’s Go Baby! What better way of roaming around is to just have a quick staycation in the metro or nearby provinces.

Our bundle of joy

We all know that raising an infant is no joke, and so we tend to go on the safer side of traveling, let’s just start first with staycations then as she grows, we’ll eventually shift to another levels hehe.

This is a late post, we visited Tagaytay again, the nearest to our place for a holiday or just over the weekend. It was Black Saturday to Easter Sunday, we booked a unit at SMDC Wind Residences via AirBnB app.

We started our Saturday by visiting my favorite chapel in Tagaytay at Little Souls Sisters Convent. Then, we had lunch at Concha’s Garden Cafe since check in time at the unit is still at 2:00pm.

It was Black Saturday, we expected more guests checking in, there was a line and the lobby of Tower 4’s flocked with arriving and leaving guests. It’s already near 3:00pm when we entered the unit, you can see the entire unit’s photos below.

The lobby

We booked this one bedroom unit during Good Friday at Php2,500-3,000 price range, I can’t recall the exact amount since it was Dear who reserved. It’s located at the 8th floor of Tower 4, with Taal Lake’s view.

We did not roamed around the compound of Wind Residences, we just went to the nearby Hypermarket to buy groceries for the night and Pizza Hut on the ground floor. Baby’s 2 months old when we had this trip and so we chose to stay indoors and enjoy the very cold air-conditioning of the unit hehe, simply rest overnight and have family bonding.

Parking area is a bit far from the towers, you’d have to ride their shuttle or just walk like Dear did. The clubhouse and pool area, is near the parking area, and as expected it was flocked again with guests of all ages.Overall, the booked unit is nice, it gave all the necessities one should have during an overnight stay. It’s a spacious unit that can fit even up to 5 persons, they also have 2 mattresses aside from the bed. It has a basic interior and not located in higher floors but good enough for a quick stay. We checked out earlier than 12:00pm to avoid other guests at the lobby.

View from the unit at noon time

P.S. Sharing my pregnancy and after pregnancy photos, taken on the same spot🙂

Calming Caleruega

Standard
Calming Caleruega

Joan celebrated her special day by going on church visit at their neighboring town down south. We always wanted to visit this one place in Nasugbu, Batangas as well since it’s oftentimes posted on wedding blogs, videos and photo shoots. We are known as a couple who appreciates nature’s beauty and we make it a point to find time for God even in our marriage. What better way of celebrating her special day is to visit this calming place that offers both nature and spiritual growth, Kaja let’s go to Caleruega!”

13413100_10206839251964465_7976113926537339475_n.jpg

Caleruega was named after the birthplace of St. Dominic de Guzman, father of the Order of Preachers. As they say, you can re-create yourself on this place, it speaks through signs and symbols. It is a sanctuary amidst the beauty of nature where everyone is welcomed to nurture his spirituality.

13435336_10206822031413962_5410523793514140033_n

It’s also open for retreats & recollections, team building camps, prayer workshops, weddings & receptions.

It’s quite near Tagaytay and one can easily find Caleruega, but it’s best to visit here with a private transportation. From Tagaytay proper, you’ll pass by Mendez Junction, Royale Tagaytay, Splendido, once you find the Nasugbu arch and Petron gas station, turn left and you’ll see Hillcrest. You’ll also pass by Chapel on the Hill and then turn right to bumpy Caleruega road. You’ll find parking areas near Caleruega, it costs Php 40.00.

Caleruega has an entrance fee of Php 30.00 per head and they will give you a brochure. Funny how the rain poured soon as we stepped inside the place haha, more like a birthday blessing.

13434824_10206822030653943_4127902928206201791_n

The place is good enough for a day tour and a side trip to your Tagaytay or neighboring Batangas town getaway. You can roam around and appreciate the calming presence in it’s every spot, don’t forget to check out the map on brochure so you can visit the must-see sights. Wear light clothes, good shoes and bring clothes for you to change in. The weather here can be unpredictable especially during rainy season, and it can get humid at times too.

  • Service and staff are just okay, don’t expect too much, but they do offer room cleaning free of charge.

This hotel is recommended for those special occasions you want to celebrate with a bit of classy touch without spending way too much. You really can chill and enjoy your break at Lee Boutique Hotel with all the privacy and quiet ambiance it has. But this hotel is not recommended for budget travelers since it can eat up most of your travel fund. You can check out one of our Tagaytay posts featuring a less expensive accommodation beside Lee Boutique, on this link. Still, for a nice hotel experience, it’s worth the try and we find ourselves looking forward checking-in with Lee Boutique Hotel if we are to have another Tagaytay trip.

Tagaytay Honey-chill

Tagaytay Honey-chill

Have you noticed a few months of idleness in our site? Well, we’ve been busy for some time now because finally… we are now a happily married couple! 🙂 An easy way to celebrate our post-wedding moments is to go out of town, without breaking our budget :p “Kaja let’s go again to Tagaytay!”

Yep, you read it right..we got married last September 5, 2014, yey!  Right after our wedding reception, my parents drove us from Manila to Tagaytay (bridal car!? hehe) We chose to spend our honeymoon or should I call “honey-chill” in Tagaytay. This is to maximize our time well, get more rest less the hassle and all, comparing if we are to spend it on a far out of town trip.  If you wanna know more on our previous Tagaytay post  and other tips, you may check this link, since I won’t post the other details here anymore. Accommodation

10436250_10202927246126764_2179983931840423656_n

We spent 2 nights at Lee Boutique Hotel, been eyeing on this place since our last Tagaytay visit. For our special celebration, of course a special accommodation should be checked in with hehe. Overall, our stay there was so worth it and enjoyable. Will be doing another post about this hotel, so kindly wait for it.

Places to Visit

  • Pink Sisters Convent and Church

10599332_10202927271527399_119897546046073167_n

We always find time to visit this place whenever we are in Tagaytay. There’s this peaceful and solemn feeling that keeps us coming back. This is the first place we went to right after our wedding, to have God’s blessing and guidance on our marriage. We wrote our prayers and then went to a coffee shop before checking in at our hotel. Observe proper dress code and behavior when visiting Pink Sisters, even the guards can be strict at times. It’s accessible by a jeepney and tricycle but it’s a few blocks away from the main road.

  • Bulalo Point

15265_10202347468678689_3251958502860756733_n

Our main choice is Tower Ground Bulalo but the jeepney does not reach that part anymore, so we went off at Bulalo Point instead. We’ve read some good reviews on this place and we also found it nice enough to try. From Olivarez / Rotonda, just ride a jeepney in front of KFC or Andok’s and tell the driver to drop you at the bulalo-han, fare is P 9.00 each. You’ll pass by Robinsons..Sky Ranch then Bulalo Point, which is located along the main road together with other bulalo restos. You won’t get lost because of the many Bulalo signage you’ll see 🙂 Special bulalo good for 2-3pax starts at P 300.00, overall budget for 2 pax when dining here is arond P 500-700. The place doesn’t have a good view of Taal, but the cool breeze is still there.. the ambiance is just okay..food served is all right, a good resto for a quick bulalo craving less the over-spending.

  • Sky Ranch

10641107_10202929642666676_5739613741058031191_n

Just a quick jeepney ride from Bulalo Point,  fare is P 8.50 each, it’s easy to locate because of the outdoor attractions you’ll see along the road. Weekday entrance fee is P 100.00 while on weekend it’s P 150.00. Of course who shouldn’t miss riding their main attraction, the Sky Eye! Ticket costs P 150.00 each, the ride lasts 10-15 minutes which gives you a panoramic view from above.

10559665_10202927263607201_1477072143905866950_n

But what we enjoyed more than that ferries wheel is the Super Viking 🙂 ticket is P 100.00 each and the ride duration’s longer than expected. It does a one full stop until the momentum decreases, so imagine the long wait while doing an almost 90 degrees position in the air haha. We enjoyed this ride comparing to the other viking-types in some amusement parks. Save at least P 1,000 for a couple’s budget date while in Sky Ranch, some of their rides are not worth the try but a good view of Taal may be found here.

We didn’t roam much after Sky Ranch since we just wanted to take a rest and spend free time at the hotel. Photos were taken by our cellphone camera only, we got lazy and left Dear’s camera at the hotel haha. Our second time Tagaytay trip was easier and we’re much familiar with the commuting part. Still, Tagaytay hits the spot for that quick Manila getaway and our honey-chill was well spent! 🙂

Tagaytay’s Weekend Breeze

Standard
Tagaytay’s Weekend Breeze

Whenever weekend’s here, we working people are once again celebrating for a two days off. Our usual escape is either heading to malls, or staying at home. But this place I’m about to tell you has been consistently on top of every Filipinos or even foreigners choice whenever we want to simply chill out quickly over the weekend.. “Kaja, let’s go” to Tagaytay!

So far and out of all our escapes, this has been the fastest trip planning we’ve ever made, hooray! Last Thursday, he mentioned plans of an overnight trip for the 3rd week of July, on top of our list is going back to Cristina Villas in Antipolo. My travel maniac mode turned on and since that Thursday night until the whole Friday, I was just doing some research on where should we head on aside from Antipolo. Tagaytay bumped into my mind, we’ve been here many times but it’s always with our family, so it came to me that we try on this place only with our selves! Like the Filipino saying goes, “Buti pa ang biglaang lakad, natutuloy!”  Our schedule and fares below computed for 2 pax…

July 13 Saturday

Just a note, we started our trip from Bacoor, Cavite since we attended to a personal matter in this place.

  • 11:00am San Agustin bus from Talaba, Bacoor to Tagaytay – P 140.00 // 12:45pm ETA Olivarez, Tagaytay
  • Quick lunch, then a tricycle ride to Aroma – P 20.00 // 1:30pm ETA Check in at Aroma -P 1,800.00 single ground floor room
  • After a nap, 3:30pm went out to People’s Park In The Sky, tricycle ride – P 80.00 //3:45pm ETA People’s Park P 60.00 entrance fee
  •  5:45pm Tricycle ride to Olivarez – P 100.00//Had dinner, tricycle ride back to Aroma – P 25.00 then rest mode

July 14 Sunday

  • 6:30am Breakfast..rest mode // 10:30am Check Out at Aroma, tricycle to Pink Sisters Convent – P 60.00 // 10:45am ETA Pink Sisters, free time, pasalubong shopping
  • 11:15am Tricycle back to Olivarez – P 20.00 // 11:20am  San Agustin bus to Taft Quirino – P 172.00// 12:45 pm ETA Taft Quirino

Location

Tagaytay is a city in the province of Cavite, many tourists thought it’s part of Batangas but it’s not 🙂  As mentioned, this place is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations because of outstanding scenery and cooler climate provided by its high altitude. Tagaytay is relatively close to the capital city of Manila, only 55 km (34 mi) away via Aguinaldo Highway, providing an easy escape for the locals from the heat of the big city.

Getting there (commuting):

Going to Tagaytay is easy breezy! If you’re coming from Manila like us (Taft Quirino to be exact), take San Agustin, Erjohn & Almark some of the known buses with signage Tagaytay, Mendez  and tell the conductor you’ll get off at Tagaytay Rotonda or Olivarez. From there, you’ll find many jeepneys and tricycles that will take you to your next destination. Some of the drivers even offer tour and accommodation but note it’s much expensive if you’ll get their deal. Bus fare is around P 80-90.00, travel time is 1 hour but with Aguinaldo Highway where traffic is famous haha, it can stretch up to 3 hours.

Accomodation:

With just a short time of research, many Tagaytay hotels, resorts, rooms are known to be a bit pricey, one of the factors here is because it’s a “touristic place” boohoo. I shortened my list to 2 options: Aroma Tagaytay or Keni Po, these places are well known for nice accommodation enough for an overnight and budget friendly too. I messaged all their contact numbers but there were no replies haha. I also emailed Aroma, but their replies are a bit delayed so it wasn’t so helpful but at least the owner welcomed us even just in email haha. I guess they can improve their service on that aspect, just saying 🙂

Anyway, we chose Aroma due to location convenience (near Olivarez, Pink Sisters Convent, Picnic Groove, Good Shepherd) and reasonable room rate, we got the Single Room in Ground Floor with free breakfast at P 1,800.00 (accommodates up to 2 pax, queen size bed, dining set, closet, air-conditioner, cable tv, toilet & hot/cold shower, 2 bath towels and soaps)

a sneak peek of our room

To our surprise, Aroma is just beside the also famous Lee Boutique (which we also eyed on since they have an Ensogo deal but it’s too pricey for an overnight stay) Well don’t compare Aroma too much with modern hotels, like what they say “You get what you pay for.”, that’s how I would describe this place in a motto.

morning paper

Well it’s not so modern compared to other bed and breakfast or hotels, it’s usual simple but decent and it has a privacy you’re looking for and a budget wise place to stay. They have clean and maintained rooms, surroundings, they also have a pool on which we didn’t swam on since we forgot to bring our swim wear haha.

pool at foggy morning, would you dare swim? :p (shot by cam phone only)

In terms of the staffs service, I would say it’s on the average also, sure they are friendly and attentive. But as a guest, somewhat we are still looking for that personal touch, again, you get what you pay for okay.

After checking in, we had nap first to recharge ourselves in preparation for the afternoon gala, on which we got lazy at first because “bed” weather is magnetizing us not to leave our room haha. But then, we’re here already so why not roam around, we rode a tricycle in front of Aroma, asked first how much to Picnic Groove (it’s P 40.00), how about People’s Park? (it’s P 80.00)..and so People’s Park it is!

I’ve been to this place many times since I was a kid, I always like it up here because it’s located on the highest part of the town and I can be covered by the mist and fogs, take a 360 degree view of Batangas, Cavite, that’s all. Whenever we visit this, I always feel a sense of pity because this place has even a bigger potential to attract much more tourists if only it can be restored and maintained well.

I don’t know where does the entrance fee of P 30.00 go to, there’s nothing much left to do up here. They have food and souvenir stalls, henna tattoo and photo booth at the deck.

For years, we usually ride the jeepney from the gate on our way up and back to the parking lot. But this time, we chose to walk it all up and we’re shocked because it’s not that far and tiring all the way to the mansion! The locals have been joking us tourists for years, I’ll take that as my 1st nega note.

That afternoon was foggy and we didn’t get a clear shot of Taal Lake and so we just did many photo ops haha.

It’s getting dark and we’re thinking about visiting the new attraction “Sky Ranch” where you can find the country’s tallest Ferris Wheel, they say it’s nice to go there at night. The first tricycle driver who drove us to People’s Park told us that we can just walk down to the parking lot/jeepney terminal back to town. Yeah we walked down, following the road but we can’t find a parking lot, we don’t know how far do we still need to go then we passed by a group of another tricycle drivers. This is my 2nd nega note on this trip, at first he offered us P 120.00 but we insisted it’s just P 80.00 on our way up here how come it’s much expensive in going down back to Olivarez, then he let us ride so I guess P 80.00 is settled. Upon arrival at Olivarez, this is the 3rd nega note, we handed him  P 100.00 and we’re waiting for our change, then this driver insisted we still lack P 20.00, that the normal charge is P 120.00. Come on, it’s easier to drive down than going up yet you charge us higher than our first tricycle ride?! In the end, he scratched his head, and gave us a facial expression it’s like saying “ok fine P 100.00 it is. ” hahaha you can’t beat us.

We’re looking for a place to eat Bulalo but I think it’s far from Olivarez and we’re hesitant to ride another tricycle again after that incident of overcharging, we had dinner at the town, bought some snacks, then head back to Aroma for some rest.

Sunday morning, we promised to visit Pink Sisters Convent again, before going home we head on to the convent to pay some respect. We didn’t took much time there we just wanted to drop by and leave a prayer. Walking back to the Aguinaldo Highway, we bought Baby Tawilis perfect for breakfasts and found this new pasalubong hype, no it’s not buco pie, it’s buco tart.. Amira’s Buko Tart House found at D’ Banquet, it’s just along Aguinaldo Highway.

these tarts are simply awesome! taken by camera phone only

We waited for buses along the highway but most of them are already full, so we rode a tricycle back to Olivarez at P 20.00 and luckily we have the back seats of that loaded bus, our travel time back to Manila’s shorter, there were no traffics at all.

Is Tagaytay a commuter friendly place? Well, it’s so-so, let me put it this way…it’s much easier to roam around if you have a private car, if you’re commuting around Tagaytay, expect to be overcharged by the local tricycle drivers. They don’t have a fixed fare charging compared to other places, sometimes they’ll tell you that place is too far to walk but in reality it’s not, it’s just about making profits from tourists I guess so.  Tagaytay will still be part of the mainstream choices for weekend escape of city dwellers and we’re not closing ourselves to it. At least, now, we tried backpacking this place, a different experience from our usual private car drive.

Budget/Expenses

  • Transportation – P 717.00
  • Lodging – P 1,800.00
  • People’s Park Entrance Fee – P 60.00
  • Food & Pasalubong – P 800.00

Total Expenses: P 3,400 estimated (we’re a bit higher than usual P 3k budget, I guess it’s because this is an unplanned trip, we didn’t shopped for our food & snacks before hand. And another thing is the tricycle fares.
