Club J Dive Resort

Club J Dive Resort

Another November 2021 blog post dump, and this is one of the trips we wouldn’t forget. Heading into holiday mood, approaching December, suddenly we’re all in for a road trip / beach family getaway. We haven’t stepped onto the beach for years, our toddler is also always saying “Let’s go to the beach!” whenever she watches her Boracay trip.

After running searches online, a very nice photo in Airbnb got my attention and searched it more on Facebook, so we found this place called Club J Dive Resort. They are responsive to our inquiries, everything went smooth up to our reservation via Messenger, we just made a 50% down payment via GCash. They just acknowledged our reservation via Messenger and SMS. There were no other requirements from us, just the Vaccine Cards.

It’s been a while since we visited Batangas beaches so we opted to try this one. They are located at Barangay San Jose, Mabini, Batangas. A 2 hours driver from Bacoor, Cavite, that time you’re free to drive on nearby provinces, as long as the adults were fully vaccinated, no checkpoints from Cavite to Batangas. You can pin their location on navigational apps, but they are easy to locate if you use the “Tanlak Resort”.

These reviews were based from our overnight stay…

Parking Area – Small parking space. Overnight fee is Php 200.00.

Staff – They lack hospitality and needs more orientation. It’s as if they are always confused and weary whenever you approach and request something from them. They will not revert to you unless you remind them.

Room – Just an average, fair enough for the 3 adults paying. We got the room rate of Php 3,500.00, it’s a Twin Room for 3 adults, no charges for our toddler. It comes with a free breakfast meal only, you’ll have to pay for your hot drinks or coffee. The room has 2 beds (1 double sized, 1 single sized), they have a stable wi-fi connection in the rooms. Make sure to bring your own towels, slippers, toiletries like we did. We had to ask for their towels, we haven’t found any on the room. Also, don’t expect complete amenities, they don’t have electric fan, TV, room slippers. The restroom is spacious, they have 2 pumping bottles for shampoo and body soap. They allow guests to bring food inside, so we just bought our own drinking water and snacks.

Restaurant – Their price range is a bit on the high side, if you compare it to the overall quality of the resort. Availing the full-board meals is cheaper, if you have no choice. Taste is just on the average as well. For dinner, we tried their Samgyupsal Set of Php 400.00 per head, it’s just okay, side dishes and meats were not even unlimited. If you’ll order in their resto, average waiting time is at least 30 minutes to an hour.

Facilities – They have a diving pool, ranges from 5 feet – 9 feet, be careful especially those who cannot swim and with kids, we brought our own floaters, but they also have it on the pool. We enjoyed swimming in the pool, the water is not so cold and not hot.

Mostly on the shoreline, you’ll get to see poops of their resident cats and dogs. This resort is pet friendly though. But who will be happy to smell the poop when you’re hanging out by the beach? And sometimes, you get to step on the poops since the sand is dark.

Overall – We had a nice and smooth start with the resort. It’s just that the problems started to come one by one, upon our arrival at their place. We saw there were many good feedbacks online but from our own experience, there are plenty of areas that really needs improvement. Sad to say, instead of our relaxing getaway, we got even stressed out that we just checked out earlier than usual.

Hope we somewhat gave you a bit of heads up. If you have more time to read, this is the part where we detail our experience.

We checked in on a Sunday, the parking space is full, so we assumed the resorts still have guests, but we managed to get a spot, the parking attendant is friendly, he showed us the entrance to the resort and called one of the staff to get our baggage. Since we arrived 2:00pm, we stayed on their restaurant/common area first. No one was approaching us so we texted their contact person, was informed that we cannot check in yet since our room is still being cleaned. Note that their check-out time is 11:00 am, you still have some time to clean those rooms prior arrival of your next guests. We noticed the generator sound was so loud, no one bothered to inform us that there’s no electricity, we only found out upon actual checking-in at our room. Also reported it to the owner via Messenger, just the usual response received. We requested for an electric fan be plugged in to an extension, but it was not given after our several follow-ups to the staff. Imagine, you have guests and rooms has no electricity for almost an hour. We just went with the flow, tried to freshen up, the sun is about so set, so we hang-out on the shoreline, then swam on the beach. One of the guests also had the same sentiments with us that time, they were a group though. We met the owner during our dinnertime, he’s friendly as well. They did not charge the Php 200.00 overnight parking fee to us, I think since it has something to do with our raised concern on the no electricity upon checking in.

Seaside Holiday – Baby’s 1st Sea & Air Experience

Seaside Holiday – Baby’s 1st Sea & Air Experience

It’s Kaja Let’s Go’s WordPress page 9th year anniversary, 9 years of documenting our travels and other memorable moments as a couple, and now as a family of three. We can’t afford an anniversary giveaway though but we have a special travel blog post.

It’s the love month again, for us it’s an extra special month since our baby girl just turned one year old! My baby rode an airplane and a boat, went to the beach..achievement for a travel-holic mommy hehe. Let us tell you more about it, “Kaja let’s go baby to Boracay!”A day after her birthday party, we flew to Boracay, just the three of us, our private celebration moment.

Baby at the AirportFor domestic flights, no need to present baby’s passport, we only showed the photocopy of her PSA issued birth certificate. To be sure, I also brought the original one but the airport staff is ok with just the photocopied version. We don’t have check-in baggages on our flights. Baby’s sitting on our laps, but the airline charged us a minimal handling fee on both flights. There’s an Infant Feeding Station near Gate 119 at NAIA Terminal 3, while waiting for our boarding announcement, I breastfed my baby inside the room. A Kiddie Play Area is also available just beside this room, but I wasn’t able to take a photo outside.Baby is not scared inside the plane even during take off and descend, most of the time she’s just playing with the airline’s magazine and other paper stuff in the chair.Upon arrival at Godofredo Ramos airport, we just looked for Klook’s booth, they took the printed voucher and gave us stickers an tickets for the jetty port. Just right outside the airport gate, their bus is waiting for us. From the airport, it’s just a 10 minute drive to Cagban Jetty Port.Baby at the Port

Now, it’s time for baby’s first sea travel. Again, baby’s not scared on both boat rides. We chose Boracay as our first family domestic travel due to the convenience of transportation. The transfers from air, sea and land is easy and accessible compared to others. After 10 minutes, we have arrived at the island.Baby at Boracay Island

Before exiting the port’s gate, our service is waiting and it took at least 15 minutes till we arrived at our hotel. We arrived 11:30am but the check-in time is 2:00pm so we left our bags with the hotel’s reception and we had our lunch nearby. On our first day, it was raining from late afternoon till evening, we have no choice but to stay indoors. It was only Daddy who went outside and bought ramen for our dinner.Second day, we are all early risers and excited to go at the seaside. After our breakfast, we walked along the shore going to Willy’s Rock. When the morning sun is out, we wanted to go for a swim but baby got scared haha, just hearing the waves scares her..and yep, we did not swam at all for the entire trip.We went to D’Mall for lunch, and just strolled along the shore the whole afternoon. Of course, pizza and pasta for our last island dinner.Third day, we just had a short seaside stroll since we have to check-out earlier due to our airport pick-up service arriving at 10:00am.

Royal Park Resort HotelLocated in beachfront of Station 1, a short walk from Willy’s Rock and a 10 minutes walk to D-Mall. We chose to stay in Station 1 area this time and it’s better, lesser crowd even on the shore. We booked this via Agoda, it’s cheaper online than on the spot booking, they charge P5,500.00 per night if you’ll walk in. Overall, we enjoyed our stay with them and will check-in here if we return to Boracay. The room is fair enough, the staff are all friendly and accommodating. I also like that they have a buffet breakfast, I really enjoyed it hehe.

Our third time visiting Boracay Island, but first time with a baby. For me, I like this cleaner, quieter version of the island. Or it just happened that we went on a weekday plus the current nCOV threat. I’m still on a vacay-high, a bit lazy & tired but honestly, travelling with a baby ain’t easy.

Our next goal, fly international with baby. For now, let’s take it slow and save up not just for travels, but for baby’s future as well.

Thanks for reading!

Paniman Beach – One of Ternate’s Forgotten Cove

Paniman Beach – One of Ternate’s Forgotten Cove

Summertime is here once again. But due to our everyday busy lives, traffic, and other hassle, we tend to get lazy in going out of town trips. Worry no more, we found another cove located near the metro with a lesser crowd. “Kaja let’s go” to Paniman Beach at Ternate, Cavite!

19437693_10211776042301138_1487399938524028133_n

When we hear Ternate, the first place that comes to our mind is the well known Boracay de Cavite. However, since that cove became exposed to the public, beach goers tend to flock on that place especially during weekends and holidays. Well, if you’re also a 90s kid, you may be familiar with Puerto Azul, and this is where Paniman Beach is located. It was Black Saturday and a few days without work so we opt to have a bit of vitamin sea 🙂

29683339_10211776044901203_2760221901302345590_n

Getting there

  • Via private car – Simply type in Paniman Beach on your Waze app. Once you see the signage of Puerto Azul, head on to that entrance gate and a guard will approach you. There are also signage inside the Puerto Azul compound when going to Paniman or it’s other coves.
  • Via commute – From the Coastal bus terminal, ride a bus going to Ternate. From Ternate terminal, you can hire a tricycle going to Puerto Azul. Though we’re not so sure if they allow the tricycles inside the compound since we did not saw any.

29597464_10211776044261187_2689660931557130707_n.jpg

We left Bacoor at 5:00am and arrived at Paniman around 7:30am, pee-break/stop over included. We suggest that you bring your own car / rent a car when going to Paniman Beach for convenience.

The Beach

Paniman Beach management does not allow overnight trips, it has been implemented for 3 years now. Day tour hours is from 8:00am to 5:00pm and they are open daily. There are no hotels inside the cove but there are plenty of cottages to chill. You can bring your own tent, what’s good is that there is no tent pitching fee compared to other resorts. But if you’re looking for an overnight place to stay in Ternate or inside the Puerto Azul compound, there is Caysubic Beach Resort, with full amenities that a beach resort has to offer. Paniman has an entrance fee of Php 300.00 per head, no corkage fee, no cottage fees. There is a shower room but needs a little maintenance, and we think the water supply also comes from the sea, since it’s a bit salty and leaves a sticky feeling in your skin. The cove also has it’s own store, videoke machine, rentals for tents/plastic chairs & tables.

29791842_10211776043661172_2642552829548157450_n.jpg

The sand is greyish brown, darker compared to further beach coves in Ternate. But still we chose Paniman due to it’s quiet ambiance, chill mood, hassle free stay. We stayed at the beach almost half a day only but we’re already solved and recharged.

29570839_10211776045421216_4111856721572703981_n

Still, we’re also looking forward to explore other coves here in Cavite. Paniman Beach may seem like a forgotten or abandoned resort but it’s also a recommendable place if you’re looking for a beach and chill experience, or simply want to take a break from the city’s stress. You can also visit Kaybiang Tunnel after your beach trip, it’s 5 to 6 kms away from Paniman. Overall, we give this place a big thumbs up!

Larga Laiya

Standard
Larga Laiya

Family outing? A quick beach getaway near Manila? Batangas is the common answer for that. Plenty of beach resorts to choose from and stay with. For now, we will take you to San Juan, Batangas or commonly known as Laiya, so “Kaja let’s go!”.

17862344_10209203803476775_5235505206581218360_n.jpg

We had a hassle free family trip for the holy week and my father’s birthday celebration. A 2-3 hours drive away from the metro and you’ll find the coastal town of San Juan, Batangas and from there, you can find Barangay Laiya.

As mentioned, plenty of beach resorts can be found there, with different price ranges. Laiya tends to be crowded during weekends and holidays, so it’s better to have a reservation prior your trip. There are also locals by the road offering cottages, private resorts (ala Pansol, Laguna style) but we recommend to directly transact with your chosen resort instead.

17799027_10209203795716581_8345600863568066748_n

We walked in at One Laiya Beach Resort, day tour was our plan but since they are so accommodating, we booked a beachfront room for an overnight stay. Room rate starts at P5,000.00 with air-condition and own bathroom. The room is recommendable for family trips since you have privacy, no need to fall in line at the common CR.

17952861_10209203833237519_3514959588036919626_n

Compared to other beach resorts, One Laiya has the affordable rates and good enough for a family overnight stay. They also charge a P100.00 entrance fee for adults, but senior citizens and children below 12 years old are free. You won’t get these offer from other known resorts. Bringing of own food is allowed, they don’t charge corkage fee, grill area can be used for free. You can max out the persons capacity on the room, you can bring your own mattress and pitching of tent is allowed free of charge too.

The resort is nice for your needed beach getaway. They don’t have a swimming pool but the beach will do, long shoreline to walk around, cottages to hang out, volleyball & water activities are also available. The beach is also child friendly since water is calm and shallow. Don’t expect a white sand and clear water at Laiya, but the place can make you feel relaxed enough for the weekend.

Day tour and weekday trips are recommendable at Laiya. Be it solo, couple, friends or with family, head on for just a quick chill and drive away from your stress. It’s also advisable to bring your own car, for own travel convenience and lessen fare expense, as going to Laiya via commuting can be a bit hard.

Thanks for reading, kindly rate this post. 🙂

My Heart Will Coron

My Heart Will Coron

That pun intended blog post title cracks me up :p but seriously my heart will go on and on for Coron. Superb and loved every bit of this trip and so we want to share it with you guys too, “Kaja let’s go to Coron!”

14333136_10207460321290810_137577437110223455_n.jpgOur awaited 2nd wedding anniversary trip has arrived, this time John planned the whole trip and it was a smooth one. No hassles from our flights, accommodations and tours, it was an adventure-filled, tiring yet rewarding celebration we had. A couple like us needs a break away from it all and what awesome place to spend our special day on this gem, truly one of Philippine’s treasure.14292373_10207460323290860_6035196113934276738_n.jpg

Getting there

Via Air – Most commercial flights can take you to Busuanga, Coron, travel time takes about an hour. Then from Francisco B. Reyes airport, you can ride a van going to town proper which will take you another 30-40 minutes travel time. It’s more convenient though if you will arrange airport transfers from your chosen accommodation.14374795_10207476734381127_1853131972_o.jpgVia Ship – 2Go travel also offers direct trips from Manila port to Coron port, this will take you 12 hours or more of travel time. I must say, we have yet to experience this kind of trip haha though it will eat up more of our free time.

Accommodation and Tours

14374580_10207476712180572_19329496_o.jpgCoron Ecolodge was our chosen accommodation, we also booked our tours with them for convenience. I took a photo of their brochure, click the photo to view the details.

14359802_10207476712020568_1185524586_o.jpgRates starts at Php 1,648.00 per night for 2 pax, with free breakfast. What we loved about this place is it’s location, clean and cool rooms, unli-coffee, excellent customer service from online inquiries up to your check-out, arranged tours are organized too.

14315707_10207476712620583_1933444465_o.jpgKudos to Coron Ecolodge for doing such a great job, we definitely enjoyed our hassle-free stay and would love to check-in with your place if we’ll visit Coron again. Kajaletsgo is not affiliated with Coron Ecolodge but may we say some commendations about them since they deserve it. 🙂

Coron Town Tour

This tour was on our 1st day, it usually starts at 4:00pm to avoid getting sunburned on the itineraries and you’ll have a perfect time to end it with a sunset while dipping in the hot-spring. Town tour will take you to Lualhati Park, Coron Souvenir Shop, Mount Tapyas, Maquinit Saltwater Hot-spring.14199399_10206809232459995_9171195063194147804_n.jpg14183844_10206800701246720_3764522399503087062_nDon’t forget to bring your drinks or light snacks when going up to Mount Tapyas. Getting there is tolerable, you’ll have to take the 721 steps, stairs to the max. Then it’s best to go to Maquinit Hot-spring before sunset and the place has restroom but no shower rooms available. 14333658_10207460270289535_1591618738021561523_n

BPI and PNB Savings Bank are the 2 banks that I saw at the town. Getting around the town is easy, it’s a Php 10.00/head tricycle ride from your hotel, just tell the driver where you want to go. Eating out and pasalubong at Coron is a bit pricey, during our stay we dine at Lolo Nonoy’s Food Station, and we bought our pasalubong at Coron Harvest and Coron Souvenir Shop. But I recommend going to Coron Souvenir Shop instead since they have wider-varieties and their prices are lower than Coron Harvest. 14316009_10207476712540581_1863010938_o.jpg

Coron Island Tour

14352147_10207460247888975_4905740264710646206_o.jpgThere are many island hopping tours to choose from but if you have a short-time and wanted to maximize the Coron’s highlights, I recommend availing the Coron Ecolodge’s Coron Island Tour (joiner). Starts at 8:30am to 5:00pm with included lunch, don’t forget to rent your aqua shoes (Php 150.00 per pair) and snorkeling items (Php 150.00 per head) you can find these stores near the port.

Smith Coral Garden

This tour will take you to Kayangan Lake, Smith Coral Garden, Banul Beach, CYC Beach, Balinsasayaw Floating House, Twin Lagoon. The weather during the island hopping is unpredictable so make sure you have dry-bags or water-proof your gadgets.

What we loved most on the tour are Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and snorkeling at Balinsasayaw despite the heavy rains, it’s another one of a kind experience we had. I won’t go into details of the itineraries, but I will just provide the photos taken per location.

Estimated Budget

  • Accommodation & Tour Package – Php 7,896.00 (for 2 pax)
  • Tricycle Rides – Php 300.00
  • Food, Pasalubong – Php 3,000.00

14233158_10206815598539143_6715068597917449866_n.jpgAs of now, Coron is the best Philippines destination we’ve been to. If we get the chance to book another Busuanga flight, we’d love to try the other island hopping tours especially Malcapuya island. This place never runs out of surprises and awesomeness that makes you think if you’re really here in the Philippines haha. Sometimes, I also envy the locals since they are near these lovely spots and they all look so laid-back in this charming town.

We’re already missing you Coron.14360365_10207476712660584_485590285_o

Corregidor’s Rustic Charm

Standard
Corregidor’s Rustic Charm

Talking about history, oftentimes Intramuros, Manila always comes to our mind. But did you know that an rustic island near Manila is just waiting for you too? It’s screaming of the past events and it can fill your history-loving selves just by a day tour. This place is also perfect for your day tour budget getaways. Let’s sail away, “Kaja let’s go to Corregidor!”.

13567472_10206942905515739_9116140406367215618_n.jpg

Funny how Corregidor is part of Cavite when it’s near Bataan. As per Wikipedia, the islands is one of the most important historic & tourist site we shouldn’t miss here in the Philippines. Due to it’s strategic location, Corregidor served as a fortress during war times against Japanese forces, and you’ll be amazed how strong the structures are built since there are ruins left despite the heavy bombarding it experienced.

13466329_10206911066839792_7964790399280040395_n

I did a research on it’s neighboring fort / islands – Fort Drum or El Fraile Island is the island that literally looks like a heavily armed drum, you can see this as well if you get to visit the Marine Base Camp at Ternate, Cavite or what they call Boracay de Cavite beach. There’s Caballo Island / Fort Hughes but it’s under the Philippine Navy so tourists are not allowed. Last one is the Carabao Island / Fort Frank, it’s a small island with features somewhat similar to Batanes as they say and it’s near Maragondon, Cavite too. Go search the internet for the islands’s photos and it looks inviting too. Then again, the island is under Philippine Navy so I guess we’d have to say goodbye to our planned tours here. 😦

Getting there

Sun Cruises Philippines is the well-known carrier from Manila to Corregidor island. Aside from ferry transfers, you can also arrange the whole island tour & accommodation. You may visit their website to know more about their rates and other offers. Docking area is at Esplanade Seaside Terminal, they have free parking but if the slots went out, you can use Mall of Asia’s pay parking, it’s Php 30.00 flat rate already. The travel time from Manila to the island is around 1 to 2 hours but you won’t get bored since the ferry ride is relaxing and the ferry’s well air-conditioned. But if you want to go outside and savor the view, why not. The crew will just also approach you when it’s time to sit inside due to safety precautions that they follow while sailing.

Corregidor Island Day Tour

Itinerary

Check-in time & Boarding time                     7:00 AM
ETD Manila                                                            8:00 AM
ETA Corregidor (Guided tour with Lunch)    9:15 AM
ETD Corregidor                                                      2:30 PM
ETA Manila                                                              3:45 PM

I would like to commend their tour management and tour guides for the strategically-timed itinerary. And when they post that schedule, they really mean it haha, we really followed the given times and we felt not so tired after the day tour. It’s just a perfect fit for the whole day stay.

13507154_10206911075480008_8198515664138763732_n

Basically, it’s more like a hop-on hop-off tour wherein you’ll ride this cute bus that looks like a tram too. Well it’s hot on the island and the weather can be unpredictable too, but the bus is open so you’ll get to feel the cool winds when it’s moving. I don’t think the tour is good for our senior citizens though, since they might find difficulties in getting on and off the bus.

13533184_10206911063319704_6582755990619166184_n

The tour starts with the low-lying spots, then driving to the uphill spots. There will be a 1 hour lunch break at the La Playa Restaurant located in Corregidor Inn (where you’ll be staying in case you booked for overnight stay).

Sun Cruises Corregidor day tour is fair enough for the experience and price. If we will return to this island, we would like to avail their overnight package, just to experience the quiet island to ourselves, we saw the clean beaches and clear water & it’s inviting.Though there are some coves where you’ll see lots of trash 😦 that came from neighboring islands like Manila, Cavite, Bataan. But don’t worry they have zones wherein swimming is allowed and not allowed.

Corregidor is famous for being creepy and spooky especially at night, so it’s another point to consider for adventurous wanderers hehe. The islands’s rustic charm will never end and will invite locals and more foreigners to experience it’s beauty, serenity and history-filled place.

That’s about it and please rate this post. Thanks!

Visiting Boracay for the second time, touring first timer travellers with “Balik-bayan” relatives, it was an another set of experience with mixed emotions. Oh and are you gearing up for the coming summer, read on. “Kaja let’s go again to Boracay!”

Our travels were mostly solo, but this one’s a bigger group, we’re 12 persons and we served as their tour guides. The group had many first time Boracay goers and it was also nice to share the tropical experience with our Balik-bayan Tito and Tita with their sons who were all first timers in the Philippines. They experienced flight delays, unpredictable weather, commuting hassle, price haggling, eating Balut but they all totally loved the adventure and it was added to their unforgettable moments, like they say… Only in the Philippines. :p

Transportation – Kaliboracay Trips

Though we had our disappointing flight delay experience from and to Kalibo, it’s a good thing that our van transfer was a smooth and dependent one. The van that we rode were both in good condition, not an old unit. The assigned driver is always ahead of our agreed pick up time and easy to talk with, same goes with their owner. The van transfer cost us Php 3,000.00 all in. We recommend Kaliboracay trips, just give them a call or text and they answer promptly. 50% down payment is required for your reservation and you will just settle the balance during your arrival at Kalibo.

Accommodation – Boracay Ocean Bay Resort

As John was browsing at Agoda he saw this hotel and directly called them instead and happen to speak with the owner directly. It was a great deal since they offered us Php 3,200.00 for 6 persons in each room with free buffet breakfast for all checked-in guests. They are located at Station 1 along the road and near commercial establishments, it’s just a 5 minute walk from and to the White Beach. The hotel is not so new even the rooms, but it’s clean and well-maintained, away from the beach noise. Overall it’s a good place to stay with and if we will visit Boracay again, we consider staying here again. They require 50% down payment for your reservation.

Activities

What we noticed is that the tour operators had a price increase of all offered tour and activities, it was only 2014 since we went there but the price went all high. Here’s an update:

  • Helmet Diving – Php 600.00 per head
  • Banana Boat – Php 300.00 per head
  • Island Hopping (includes snorkeling) – Php 3,000.00 medium boat / group of 10-12 persons
  • Parasailing – Php 1,500.00 solo / Php 2,500.00 group of 2-3 persons

Just remember to haggle for the lowest price and don’t give in easily with the prices or stories that they tell you. Especially if you are in big groups, always mention it to them so they can adjust and give better discounts. They say the price increase was due to the demand of their travel group organization and that they standardized the prices of all activities, despite all their blahs..stillask for the lowest price! :p

Not much has changed on the island, even the other islands you will visit during the island hopping tour. The White Beach is still the same even at night, though there were some new establishments by the beach and inside the D’Mall. The for sale items and pasalubong prices is still the same.

If you want a much quiet Boracay experience and a not so hot/humid one..it’s better to visit during these months, December to February, but we still got sunburned though hehe. Off peak season is better because the accommodations are not yet fully booked, the island is not so crowded, the transportation is smoother. You also won’t wait too long in availing your water or land tours since there’s not so many visitors. But be warned for it was like you’re in Korea haha due to many Korean tourists that you will see on the island.

Summer is coming, plan ahead for your travels, start that Boracay getaway itinerary!

Extreme Beach Bumming, the Calaguas way

Standard
Extreme Beach Bumming, the Calaguas way

You’re dreaming of a getaway…powdery white sand on your feet, swimming on clear water, owning the island to yourself, trekking the green hills around, beach life less the parties and all. If you wanna experience Boracay island before it was commercialized or should we say “virgin”, this place is another hit. The good news is, you don’t need promo air fare to reach this place, well if you can afford airline tickets then it’s an advantage. But let’s not forget that we are budget travelers aiming to experience this country’s beautiful provinces and share it to fellow discoverers like you! Are you up for an extreme summer trip? Well then, “Kaja Let’s Go to Calaguas!”.

_DSC0532

We can say that it was our most adventurous beach trip to date. We are fully aware of the difficulties in travelling to this island, hehe since I’ve been eyeing Calaguas for many years. Despite the research and preparations done, we’re still surprised how hard it was to reach this place. It’s a spontaneous summer getaway, 1 week of planning whether we should push through with the trip or not, but our itchy feet could not resist. So it’s a labor day and we deserve a break, it’s not LaBoracay….it’s LaCalaguas! *lame*

Getting There (commuting)

Superlines EDSA Cubao bus terminal has direct route to Paracale and Vinzons, the major jump off points to Calaguas. An 8 hours of land travel if your bus leaves late at night. We only had 1 stop over, which was at Atimonan, Quezon. From the 2 towns, you can rent a tricycle going to the fish port, then you can rent a boat going to Calaguas, which is a 2 hour butt numbing ala Rio Grande ride 🙂 It was said that Paracale route is faster, less waves, and offers cheaper boat rates.

Calaguas (Tinaga Island – Mahabang Buhangin)

IMG_20150503_060224

Located in Camarines Norte, Calaguas includes the major islands of Tinaga Island and Guintinua Island, the minor Maculabo Island, as well as several other minor islands. Most of the islands are under the administrative jurisdiction of Vinzons, Camarines Norte, while the minor island of Maculabo is under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Paracale, Camarines Norte. The famous Mahabang Buhangin is found on Tinaga Island, but the nature’s beauty itself magnets backpackers to visit the place, despite the scarcity of decent accommodations and commercial establishments.

What To Do / Activities

_DSC0584

I was surprised that kayaking is available at the island, there’s one pasalubong store as well, and there’s one place at the island with group of nipa huts fenced like a resort. Commercialization starts to spread in this place, a few years from now, we would not be surprised if it becomes like Boracay._DSC0570

Beach bumming…..beach bumming….beach bumming. Appreciate the view that surrounds you, sleep under the trees, feel the hot summer wind. Feel the powdery white sand which is somewhat similar to Boracay sand.

20150502_131041

Unlimited swimming and snorkeling! It has crystal clear water and you can even see some fishes swimming. Be careful though, the water looks shallow but just a few steps from the shore, the water tends to go deeper.

20150502_140438

Stroll around the island, explore. Walk at the long white sand shores of Mahabang Buhangin.

_DSC0608

Trek the hills. It never hurts to do walking and a little exercise, the spectacular view at the top feeds your tiredness after all. Hill top trekking is a 1 hour activity, no need for gears or trekking experience, the whole trek is just easy.

_DSC0625

We even did it without eating breakfast, we just woke up, went outside the tent and tadah…we’re at the hilltop! Aside from the view, another treat is the mobile signal haha, so you can contact your families and friends to tell them you’re still around.

IMG_20150503_085034

Do island hopping, Php 100.00 each, visit the neighboring islands of Tinaga.

Now that you’re informed about the beauty of Calaguas, you’re so tempted to go there but then you realized the haggardness since you’re a solo traveler, couple traveler with no one to share the expensive boat fare, first time traveler unfamiliar with the routes. Whatever your excuses are, fear no more, there’s Roadtrip Travels to help you get places, less the hassle. We’re always a couple traveler doing DIY trips, but we realized that Calaguas DIY trip will hurt our pockets and so after a few research, I found Roadtrip Travels. They can help you with your Calaguas trip by joining you with other travelers for an affordable rate. If given the budget, we are looking forward to book our future travels with them, and we’re also hoping that they come up with other exciting destinations in the country. Overall, our Calaguas trip experience with Roadtrip is above average, though there’s still room for improvements, pre and post sales stages. For more info, you may visit their Facebook page.

Calaguas belongs to the top best beaches we’ve been to so far. The place is like a haven for beach addicts and happy campers. Though commercialization starts to grow, we can still say that the place is still like a virgin island. We have 50 / 50 opinions whether Calaguas should be prepared to be commercialized or not, it’s also for the benefit of the locals and travelers. For now, we think it’s best to practice eco-tourism to maintain the cleanliness and serenity of Calaguas. The 2 hours boat ride, again, is not so comfy but it’s all part of the extreme summer trip to the place, an added experience for travel junkies. Calaguas is really good and stunning, but for now, it’s enough that we visited this place and we visited it before it was commercialized.

So that’s about it, please rate this post. Thank you!
